The Sense Hotel and Spa in Sofia is contemporary gorgeousness. Being part of Design Hotels, you know this will be a worthy member of this boutique and luxury collection. On our visit to their 5-day old new restaurant on the ground floor, we were super excited to see their latest food offering. Whilst this restaurants is home is within the hotel, it is ran separately by a ‘Celeb Chef’ who was apparently on Bulgaria’s Master Chef.
As you enter the hotel lobby, there is a lounge on the left as well as a bar. You pass the open plan kitchen that has a team of Chefs creating dishes very much like a theatre production, which is certainly a feature of the place. You can dine inside, but as is always the case in this ‘smokers friendly’ city, there is terrace seating too. At the time of visiting, there was no website or press related information to draw on, so we had to hope it would be good as their other restaurant, called Chefs.
We were not disappointed. The service was fantastic, our waitress had a lot of banter considering the language barrier and we had fun flirting with the very handsome Sommelier. The customers are a mix of well to do families, singles and groups of friends. This restaurant is more on the expensive end of the scale, but compared to the pound, is still ridiculously affordable. The food was amazing with a special nod to the truffle and bone marrow which were both a treat and also super meaty.
Shopska, a traditional Bulgarian salad of tomato, cucumber,
onion, olives, Bulgarian cheese and egg.
Okra, hummus and taramasalata.
Bone marrow with garlic and shallots
Char-grilled octopus on a bed of mint paste.
Sweet chilli chicken wings.
Butternut squash parcels in cream sauce with black truffle.
All the food is amazing and its the a definite place to visit on your trip to Bulgaria. A 10 out of 10 experience.
