Bella Italia, pretty much as you would expect from all branches. Simplistic, inexpensive Italian cuisine, or at least a chains take on it. You can not help but factor in a familiar brand when you are away from home. There is nothing wrong with it as long as you don’t expect to be blown away.
This little spot was great for a quick lunch before heading off to meet a friend at the Boat Show. I started with some big garlic prawns which was really tasty. For my main course, I had some grilled chicken with an onion ring and fries. This was washed down with a chilled glass of pinot grigio. It was not particularly busy even though it was on the high street, but I had arrived late – say 2pm. It is a big space to fill and I would say that it is popular with the students as it is very affordable. The service was casual. The food was good. As I said, it was as expected – nothing that will inspire you to return to a Bella Italia urgently over a more authentic Italian owned independent establishment.
