Balans, Soho – Best Brunch. Fact.

Balans has been a staple of soho for years. A community of regulars, a must for the open minded tourist, a late night stop for good food when you don’t want a kebab – it is a day and night long mecca of acitivy.

It shows no plans of slowing down or slacking, so following years of not visiting (having moved East), it was good to drop by recently when I was back in the area. They do have one in Stratford, but the original is always the best.

The day was sunny, the mood was hopeful and we wanted something light early afternoon. We were sat next to the open doors which was great for people watching and catching some rays.

No brunch is complete without the Bloody Mary, which we opted for to start. Having met some friends who were already dining, we got to see a 3D version of what was on offer and it inspired Valentina’s choice. She had the Chorizo con Papas, saute potatoes, chorizo and fried eggs. I went for Steak & Eggs, simple and a favourite of mine. I went for rare on the meat, which was fine because it wasn’t a fatty cut of meat. This is one of the best brunches I have had to be honest. A proper portion without taking out a mortgage.

The team dance around the room like a west end production. They know their space, their menu, their service, so it was as always (I expect), seamless. Good value for money – well chuffed with the impromptu visit. This alone could make me head central again in the near future.
